Softshell Proof
Nikwax Softshell Proof is a wash-in formula to give your Local Warming Jacket (or other softshell) a degree of water repellency. While this won't turn your jacket into a waterproof, it will make the water bead up and prevent you getting wet in a shower.
We originally had thought to make our jackets water repellent, but didn't because our fabric supplier could not give our 100% recycled Ultra fabric a waterproof finish without using a product that contained fluorocarbons. We decided that our Local Warming Jacket was pretty good as it was and didn't want to compromise the environmental criteria we had laid out.
However, Nikwax does not use any fluorocarbons to provide its finish (and can be washed in, rather than heat-activated using more energy intensive tumble drying), so we decided that we should offer their Softshell Proof as an optional extra. 300ml bottle is designed to proof 3 garments (100ml per garment). After proofing, using Tech Wash will help prolong the water repellency.
